Week 2
****************************************************************************************************
History Task
Similar to the way in which the Active task worked. Plenty to keep you busy. Maybe do one today and then save the others for the weeks ahead.

****************************************************************************************************
ACTIVE Task
See how many of these you can complete. Maybe you’ll do 4 and work your way down the grid,or how about doing 5 and working your way across? Or maybe you’ll get BINGO and do all of them. You can do as few or as many as you like. Enjoy and remember to add any pictures to the ‘Keeping in Touch’ Padlet.

English Tasks:
The 3 English tasks are focused on developing the use of conjunctions, fronted adverbials and using past and progressive tense . For each task I have attached help sheets and videos where possible to help the children with understanding each subject and the task. Again, these are the 3 tasks to be completed by the end of the week. Please do not feel like you have to complete them all in one day!
Task 1- Coordinating and subordinating conjunctions
Conjunctions are used to connect sentences and clauses together. Coordinating conjunctions join together phrases which have a similar grammatical structure e.g. I waited for him but he didn’t come. A subordinating conjunction joins additional information or subordinate clause to a main sentence/ clause that would be able to stand alone. for example. ‘I went to the zoo.’ Is a main clause that can have a subordinate clause added to it through the use of a subordinate conjunction, e.g. ‘I went to the zoo where I saw an elephant.’

Task 2- Fronted adverbials
Fronted adverbials are words or phrases placed at the beginning of a sentence which are used to describe the action that follows. For example- After the rain stopped, Zack went out to play.
Task 3- Past and Present Progressive tense

Maths tasks
The 3 maths tasks this week are based around addition and subtraction of 4-digit numbers. Again, the pupils will have covered the methods used to answer the questions correctly earlier in the year. The main method we would use at school is the ‘column method’ and I have attached a picture that shows how this method works (i’m sure it will be familiar to all of you). It is important to work from right to left when using the method in order to maintain the correct place value of each digit. Please don’t feel like you must complete these tasks ASAP as you have all week. Any questions then please don’t hesitate to ask one of us.

Reading task
Using the extract of chapter 4 from ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ answer these questions.
Chapter 4- comprehension questions
Physical Activity challenge
Using the table below, your full name will give you exercises to do. These exercises don’t have to be completed all at once but can be done throughout the week. Both Myself and Mr Pritchard (he doesn’t know this yet) will be completing this as well!
